With a wide range of products, it can be overwhelming and confusing trying to understand what the right products are for you. Here is our guide to help you collate a skincare routine suited to your needs.
Washing With Water
Our washing-with-water range is designed for those that have the ability to wash with direct water.
Intimate care sensitive body wash – ABENA Intimate Care Wash is a cleansing product suitable for both sensitive skin and intimate care. This liquid soap is specially formulated for intimate wash care and for people with particularly sensitive skin who still prefer to use soap. The soap is especially mild and irritation-free, maintaining the natural moisture balance in the intimate area. The product is easy to rinse off, and the pH value is balanced for the intimate area – and therefore helps to ensure the ideal intimate hygiene.
On to our next washing with water favourite, and we have the Mild Cream Soap - ABENA Mild Cream Soap is particularly suitable for daily hand washing. The pH value of the soap is adjusted to match the pH of the skin. This makes the product versatile and ideal for frequent use. The product does not contain colourant or fragrance. This product should only be used externally on the body.
After washing, for normal to dry skin we always recommend introducing some moisture to the skin. Therefore our final product for this section is our Skincare Lotion. This lotion is a lightweight hydrating lotion for daily use. Suitable for hands, body and face. The Skincare Lotion is quickly absorbed into the skin and is non-greasy. ABENA Skincare Lotion provides significant hydration for up to 8 hours. The cream contains Olus Oil and Shea Butter, which are known for their moisturising and nourishing properties.
Washing without water
ABENA’s washing without water range has been specifically designed for individuals who are unable to wash with water. This could be because you are having a family weekend away camping, and there is no shower. Or maybe getting to the shower and washing has just become a lot of effort and seems daunting and overwhelming. Don’t worry; we are here to ensure you have all the guidance you need and find the best products suited to you.
Let’s start with our cleansing foam, one of my personal favourites!
ABENA Cleansing Foam is mild and soft with effective cleansing properties for personal hygiene—a great alternative to conventional washing with water and soap. The cleansing foam is particularly suitable for people with delicate/vulnerable skin who need as little friction as possible when washing. The foam is very easy to apply and gentle on the skin. This product is super silky smooth and can be applied using our Dry Wipes/ Dry Wash gloves or on its own.
Up next are our Wet Wash gloves. Our disposable wet wash glove has a pleasant cleansing and moisturising effect and is an excellent alternative to traditional soap and water bathing. The wash glove removes sweat and odour and is very hygienic to use. Standard use of the glove removes dirt and helps to make a bed bath comfortable and gentle. The thick washcloth textile gives the patient a feeling of soft cotton and also reduces the risk of wash-care friction. You can use this product as it is, or for a more pleasant experience, you can heat it up in the microwave for 30 seconds.
And finally, for our washing without water favourites is the Shampoo Cap. The shampoo cap contains both shampoo and conditioner and is suitable either for camping or bed-bound patients. The cap can be used at room temperature or heated in the microwave (in its packaging) for 15–20 seconds at 800 W max. The Shampoo Cap can be used by placing the cap onto the head and massaging the hair through the shower cap for 2–3 mins. The hair is now cleansed, and the cap can be removed. No rinsing is needed. The shampoo cap must be used once only and discarded after use. This will leave you feeling super fresh.
Ointments, Barriers & Creams
Skin irritation can be extremely uncomfortable and difficult to manage. That’s why we have developed a range of Ointments, Barriers and Creams suited for all different types of irritation.
Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) is common in individuals who are incontinent and therefore use incontinence products. If you are suffering from IAD it is important that you check that the incontinence products are the correct fit and absorbency, as these could be contributing factors.
As well as ensuring your products are the correct fit and absorbency, there are also many skin care products suited to aid skin recovery.
So let’s talk about, Zinc. Zinc contains anti-inflammatory properties and is known for being used for inflammatory dermatosis such as; acne, rosacea, eczemas and ulcers and wounds. We have developed a full Zinc based skincare range to help battle IAD.
Zinc Ointment - ABENA Zinc Ointment is ideal for skin that requires barrier care. It contains 20% Zinc Oxide, which is known for its antiseptic properties and helps calm irritated and/or red skin. The ointment leaves a protective barrier on the skin for up to 8 hours. The product is helpful for people at risk of developing incontinent Associated Dermatitis (IAD) and/or for people at risk of developing bed sores. It can also be used on babies with nappy rash. In addition, the Zinc Ointment adds significant moisture to the skin because it contains allantoin, which soothes the skin.
Zinc Paste – ABENA Zinc paste has a drying, protective effect on irritated skin. It creates a liquid-repellent barrier on the skin, which provides relief. Protects the skin against urine and faecal contamination. Particularly suitable for wound edges as it protects the skin from wound seepage. The cream preserves the skin’s natural pH value.
Intensive Care Cream - ABENA Intensive Care is ideal for all types of skin and helps restore the skin’s natural moisture level. The cream is suitable for caring for very dry, irritated and damaged skin as well as atopic dermatitis, eczema, rash and psoriasis. The rich lipid content (70%) helps to improve the skin barrier without leaving a greasy feel. Suitable for use on both hands, body, face and even feet caused by the high-fat content. The cream has outstanding barrier properties from initial application and up to 8 hours. It can be used on both children and adults.
Skincare Ointment – ABENA Skincare Ointment with 41% lipids is ideal for very dry and/or irritated skin. Its formula helps maintain a natural moisture level of the skin. It helps to improve the skin texture as well as to repair the skin. Tests have shown that ABENA’s Skincare Ointment has outstanding, long-lasting moisturising properties. It also provides an effective barrier that is suitable for preventing people at risk of developing Incontinent Associated Dermatitis (IAD) and/or baby rash. Contains no colourants or perfume. Apply and distribute carefully in a thin effective layer. Dosage as required. It can be used frequently. Please allow the skin to absorb the cream before you continue.
Zinc Oxide Spray - Lastly, we have my favourite product in this collection, which is the Zinc Spray. It comes in a spray bottle, which means you can spray the product directly onto the skin without having to rub it into an already irritated area. This product promotes skin restoration for up to 24 hours! Great for highly irritated areas that you don’t want to apply any unnecessary pressure.
